Running your first analysis
A step-by-step guide to importing feedback and getting your first results.
Your first analysis is the fastest way to see what Threadline can do. Here's how to go from zero to insights.
Step 1 — Go to the CFA tool
From any page, click Diagnose in the navigation, or go directly to /cfa.
Step 2 — Choose your analysis mode
At the top of the page you'll see two tabs:
- Multiple Feedback (Batch) — for analyzing many pieces of feedback at once. This is the most common starting point.
- Single Feedback — for deep-diving into one customer's experience.
For your first analysis, select Multiple Feedback.
Step 3 — Select your industry
In the settings panel, choose the Industry that best matches your business (e.g., Retail, SaaS, Hospitality). This shapes how Threadline maps feedback to journey stages.
Step 4 — Import your feedback
You have several options:
- Upload a CSV — the simplest way to start if you have a spreadsheet of feedback.
- Import from an online source — pull reviews from Google Play, App Store, Trustpilot, or Reddit.
- Connect a support system — import tickets from Zendesk, Intercom, or Freshdesk.
- Multi-source — combine feedback from several of the above in one analysis.
Step 5 — Set your analysis quality
Choose from:
- Standard — fast, great for exploratory work
- In-depth — more thorough pattern detection
- Foresight — includes predictive analysis (uses more credits)
Step 6 — Run the analysis
Click Analyse. Threadline processes your feedback and generates your journey map, theme breakdown, sentiment scores, and more. This typically takes 20–60 seconds depending on the amount of feedback and quality setting.
Step 7 — Explore your results
Once complete, your results appear across several tabs: Journey, Themes, Signals, Predictions, Storyboards, Narrate, and Report. Start with Journey for an overview.
Troubleshooting
The Analyse button is greyed out
You need to import at least some feedback before running an analysis. Make sure you've selected a source and that feedback has loaded in the preview area.
My analysis is taking a very long time
Large batches of feedback (500+ items) can take a couple of minutes. If it's been more than 5 minutes, try refreshing the page — your credits will not be charged for a failed analysis.
I got an error saying I have no credits
You need at least 1 credit to run an analysis. Check your credit balance in the top-right of the CFA page. You can purchase more credits from the Pricing page.
