Uploading a CSV file
How to format and upload your own feedback spreadsheet.
Uploading a CSV is the most flexible way to get your data into Threadline. You can use data from surveys, spreadsheet exports, or any tool that lets you export to CSV or Excel.
What columns does Threadline need?
Threadline needs at minimum a text column containing the feedback. Optionally, you can include:
- Date/timestamp — helps with trend analysis over time
- Rating — numeric score (e.g. 1–5 stars)
- Source — where the feedback came from (e.g. "NPS survey", "App Store")
You do not need to name the columns in any specific way — Threadline lets you map them during import.
How to upload
- On the CFA page, select Multiple Feedback mode.
- Click the Upload tab in the data source panel.
- Drag your CSV or Excel file into the upload area, or click Browse to select it.
- Threadline will preview the first few rows. Use the column mapping dropdowns to tell it which column is the feedback text, date, rating, etc.
- Click Import to load the feedback.
File size limits
- Maximum 10 MB per file
- Maximum 5,000 rows per upload on the free plan; 20,000 rows on paid plans
Supported file types
- .csv (comma or semicolon delimited)
- .xlsx (Excel)
Troubleshooting
My CSV uploaded but the preview looks garbled
This usually means the file is using a different character encoding. Open the file in Excel or Google Sheets, and re-save it as CSV (UTF-8). Most spreadsheet tools have this option in File > Save As.
Threadline can't detect my text column
Use the column mapping step to manually select which column contains the feedback text. If there are multiple text-like columns, choose the one with the longest, most descriptive content.
I get an error saying the file is too large
Try splitting your file into smaller batches. If you're on a free plan and need to process large files, consider upgrading to a paid plan for higher row limits.
